A lynx is any of the four species (Canada lynx, Iberian lynx, Eurasian lynx, Bobcat) within the genus Lynx. The name lynx originated via Latin from the Greek word λύγξ, derived from the Indo-European root leuk- ('light, brightness') in reference to the luminescence of its reflective eyes. The lynx is a solitary cat that roams the northern forests of North America, Europe, and Asia. Lynx are covered with a beautiful thick fur that keeps them warm during freezing winters, and their large, furry paws hit the ground with a spreading toe motion that makes them function as natural snowshoes.
