Beautiful Rhinoceros Beetle mounted in a glass dome.
These beetles are used for staging beetle fights, a traditional entertainment popular in the northern region of Thailand. They are bred or sometimes captured and trained by their owners to become stronger and more aggressive, and the beetle that lifts its opponent up by its horns wins. A beetle may also win if its opponent walks away, falls or is overturned.
Glass dome is 5 1/2" x 5 1/2", base is painted black. Overall size is 6 1/2" wide x 6" tall.
