Description
Diaphonized Adolescent Rat in a vial.
A few points about Diaphonized specimens:
-This process is also known as “Clearing and Staining”. The tissue is “cleared”, and the bones/cartilage are “stained, or dyed”.
-The tissue is rendered transparent by digestive enzymes that break down the flesh.
-Dyes are then used to color the bones and/or cartilage.
-This process is typically used on smaller, or thinner specimens, and was developed initially in the very late 1800’s, and then modified by many people.
-Our Diaphonized specimens are suspended in vegetable based glycerin.
-If your vial were to break, you can typically find vegetable based glycerin in the over the counter area of a pharmacy at most grocery stores or similar.
