Description
Elegant Javan Pond Heron skeleton, real bone. This specimen is approximately 11 3/4 inches tall and 2 3/4 inches at its widest point. Its width in profile is approximately 6 inches.
The Javan pond heron is a wading bird of the heron family, found in shallow, fresh and salt-water wetlands in Southeast Asia. Its diet consists of insects, fish and crabs.
The Javan pond heron is typically 45 cm long with white wings, a yellow bill with a black tip, and yellow eyes and legs. Its overall colour is orange, gray and white during mating season, and brown and flecked with white outside of the mating season. It breeds from June to September, and is migratory.
