Description
Dog tooth Calcite was named because the stone looks like a large collection of dog’s teeth. This unusual calcite formation has colorings from clear through golden, white, grey, tan, brown and purple to name a few.
Dog tooth Calcite is often found in caves and starts as mineral deposits that accumulate and form over long periods of time. These caves often have standing water that is seasonal or that goes undisturbed for many years, which allows these unique formations to grow. Dog tooth calcite crystals are not necessarily limited to caves, but can also grow in open spaces such as veins, fractures, and geodes.
