Description
Scolecite was first recognized as a mineral species in 1813 in Germany, and given the German name “skolezit,” ten years later. Usually it grows in delicate, needle-like sprays or in larger, blade-like crystalline formations. It often forms in the cavities of basalt, granite or igneous rock. We absolutely love this magical, little cave of wonders.
This particular specimen was discovered in India, and is approximately 4 inches tall, 2 3/4 inches wide and 3 inches deep. Spectacular piece!
