Their name derives from the Proto-Algonquian word meaning “white dog” or “white beast/animal.
Did you know? Opossums and possums are different animals. Opossums live in North America, while possums live in Australia and other countries. Both animals are marsupials, but possums are more closely related to kangaroos. Even though they are both marsupials, they are completely different animals.
This particular specimen is approximately 5 1/4 inches long and 2 1/2 inches at its widest point.
