Description
Stag beetles are a group of about 1,200 species of beetles in the family Lucanidae. Natur carries several different species of stag beetle.
Some species of stag beetle grow to over 4.7 inches, but most are around 2 inches. The name is derived from the large and distinctive mandibles found on the males of most species, which resemble the antlers of stags.
Male stag beetles use their jaws to wrestle each other for mating sites in a manner that parallels the way stags fight over females. Despite their often fearsome appearance, they are not normally aggressive to humans.
This frame is 8 inches by 8 inches.
