Description
Batocera wallacei, commonly known as Wallace’s long-horn beetle, is a species of flat-faced longhorn beetle. The species name honors Alfred Russel Wallace, who discovered this longhorn beetle on the Aru Islands in Indonesia, and was named after him in 1858.
This is a very large long-horn beetle that commonly reaches 3.1 to 3.3 inches in length in the males (the females are smaller). The length of the antenna may reach any where from 8.5–9.1 inches in the males. The basic color of the body is greenish-brownish or grey with whitish dorsal patches on the elytra. The larvae are nearly four inches long.
This particular specimen has been mounted in a 5 1/2 by 8 inch glass dome. This beetle is large and beautiful!
